About the game

By the time Epic released Fortnite into early access, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds had already become a feature, selling more than 5 million duplicates in the three months since its release in March 2017 and generating solid interest in the fight royale class. Epic realized that the base game Fortnite could also have a fight royale mode, and quickly, in about two months, created its own adaptation of Fortnite. By September 2017, Epic was ready to install it as a second mode free of “Save the World” in the paid preview, but subsequently chose to make it a free-to-play game, Fortnite Battle Royale, supported by microtransactions. This version immediately gained players – over 10 million players within the first fourteen days of release, forcing Epic to create separate groups to continue improving Fortnite Battle Royale separately from the “Save the World” form, outside of the usual engine components and resources to work with. This has allowed Fortnite Battle Royale to evolve in various stages that are not supported by Save the World anyway, including iOS and Android mobile phones and the Nintendo Switch.
